Shared Ground Rules
- One engine. Every tool imports the same calculation core, so the same inputs always produce the same tonnage across pages.
- Compacted thickness in, allowance once. Thickness fields mean finished (rolled) depth, and order allowance is applied exactly once — never stacked on a compaction factor.
- Sourced defaults. The 145 lb/ft³ asphalt planning default traces to the FHWA Western Federal Lands Estimating Handbook; the 139 lb/ft³ aggregate-base default to the FHWA Federal Lands estimating table. Both are editable.
- Build-time examples. Worked examples on every page are computed by the engine when the site builds — hand-typed numbers rot, generated ones cannot.
